This traditional recipe for scalloped potatoes is creamy, cheesy, and warm, making it a great side dish for any event.
Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400F 200C
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish
Layer half of the potatoes into the prepared baking dish
Top with onion slices, and then layer remaining potatoes on top
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat
Stir in flour until smooth
Gradually stir in milk, salt, and pepper
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly
Reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes, until thickened
Pour sauce over potatoes in the baking dish
Cover with foil
Bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes
After 60 minutes, remove foil and sprinkle Cheddar cheese over the top
Return to oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly
