French Butter Cookies

These French Butter Cookies, also known as Sablés, are delicate, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Perfect for any occasion, they make a delightful treat with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy

Add the egg yolks and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and mix well

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms

Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each into a log about 2 inches in diameter

Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm

Preheat your oven to 350F 175C

Slice the chilled dough logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown

Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely

Once cooled, dust the French butter cookies with powdered sugar
